A group of dedicated pet lovers gathered on Saturday, September 6 at Nancy’s house to discuss how to incorporate our pets into our personal preparedness plans, our neighborhood plan, and our Earthquake Drill on October 18. Cindy Sanchez, a Red Cross Pet First Aid Instructor and Level 3 CERT expert, spoke about all of that and generated much discussion.

A lot of ground was covered at the first Mt. Washington Jessica Neighborhood Emergency Planning Meeting at Nancy’s house on 8/19/14.
Speakers Sylvia Robledo from Gil Cedillo’s Council District 1 office, CERT trained; Phil and Tom, Neighborhood Watch (un-official) Captains; Roy Payan, CERT coordinator whose Disaster plan for Montecito Heights is the template for all neighborhoods; and Ben Park, who along with Nancy, has participated in CERT Training and will share how to sign up, join email lists, etc.
The next local CERT class begins Thursday, September 11, 2014. The CERT Training is FREE and conducted by the Fire Department. The 7 week course covers basic fire suppression, first aid, search and rescue, and logistics.
