Cleland Park

Come celebrate our wonderful neighborhood with a potluck dinner in the park. MWJN will get the party started with tables, chairs, plates, plastic-ware and music (our own One Shot DJs ). You provide the rest!

Please bring a shareable dish and beverages (alcohol is not allowed but we are not checking coffee cups)

Feel like helping us decorate tables? We love it! Bring your ideas and come early!

This is a shine only event – but no rain in the forecast!
It should be a lovely WARM evening – bring your sunscreen, hats, insect repellent etc.
No restrooms so please plan accordingly
Parking is limited – we encourage everyone to walk
No dogs at the table this time!
Please label everything you bring to the park (bowls, chairs, etc) with your name, phone and/or address

“Survival isn’t about a bunch of high-tech gear. It’s about perspective.” – Big Sur Resident

Interesting article from the San Francisco Chronicle about Big Sur being cut off from the rest of the world when the winter storms took out the main bridge and made the routes in and out impassable. The community came together, made good use of the down time from tourists and fed each other.

Residents arranged for air delivery of food and medicine. Some took the opportunity to paint the furniture while tourists were unable to get in. Others treated it as a vacation and rested or played games. Restaurants that were able to function cooked for residents and stuck visitors.

“Obviously it brings you together,” said resident Butch Kronlund. “This place is not easy. Living here is not easy. But it’s worth it. There’s no place else on the planet where you get this combination of us working together to fix the problem.”

Visiting MYN Founder LuAn Johnson

How cool is this?

In July, our Secretary/Treasurer, Ben Park got to meet Map Your Neighborhood founder, LuAn Johnson – while visiting Seattle. She was excited to hear how Mt. Washington Jessica has successfully implemented the program she started at the Washington State Emergency Management Department. LuAn’s current venture is Span Disaster, a nonprofit that that continues the principles of Map Your Neighborhood.
