Mt. Washington Neighborhood Disaster Preparedness Meeting 3/14/19

Mt Washington is building Neighborhood Teams and developing Disaster Response Plans.

This meeting will summarize the CERT and Map Your Neighborhood programs, and explain how they can work effectively together.

If you participated in our CERT/MYN Combined Resources Drill in 2017, you probably saw that there can be a lot of benefit to working together (and that we had a lot to learn to make it go smoothly). Now we are fine tuning our plan for the entire Mt. Washington Neighborhood.

This meeting is for the community members of Mt. Washington to continue building their community disaster response plan. If you have ever taken a CERT class, or even if you’ve thought about doing so, please come. This meeting is also for people in Mt. Washington who have had a Map Your Neighborhood block meeting (or want to). Or if you’re just interested in learning about Community Disaster Preparedness.

“In a disaster, your most immediate sources of help are the neighbors living around you.” Come learn and be part of the plan to minimize the impact of a disaster.

First Aid/CPR Training 7/28/18

Would you know what to do if a family member or neighbor had a medical emergency? The Mt. Washington Jessica Neighborhood, Inc. is sponsoring a First Aid/CPR class on Saturday, July 28 from 9am – 3:30pm at the Holy Virgin Mary Orthodox Coptic Church at 4900 Cleland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Learn what to do in an emergency. Get certified for CERT level 2 or for Child Care positions or to support your “Map Your Neighborhood” block. You’ll learn what to do for everything from cuts and burns to cardiac and breathing emergencies.

The class will cost $50 in advance, $60 day of event (1/2 price if no certification requested). Instructor is Red Cross certified trainer. Prices are usually much higher. This is a great opportunity for our neighborhood.

Free CERT Class starts Wednesday, July 11 in Glassell Park

CERT class set up for Wednesday Nights starting July 11th from 7:00-9:30 PM at Glassell Park Community and Senior Center, 3750 Verdugo Road, Glassell Park, 90065. This free basic training taught by the Fire Department is to prepare you and your family for a disaster and the basic skills of how to safely respond into your neighborhood when professional first responders are not available.

We had such a great time last year we’re going to do it again! Saturday, June 16 in Cleland Park from 5-8 PM.

We’ll provide tables, chairs, paper plates and plastic ware; you provide a favorite dish. If you missed last years event, you missed an amazing culinary spread!
