MWJN Combined Resources Drill – 8/19

SAVE THE DATE – Saturday, August 19th

Joint “Map Your Neighborhood”

and CERT Exercise

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)  trains citizens to respond to disasters when first responders are unavailable.

MYN (Map Your Neighborhood) trains residents to coordinate resources and needs within their own block of neighbors in order to help themselves during the first hour of a disaster.

When the two programs are combined, we can connect the dots from individuals on a single block who have specific needs with trained responders who can get help to those who need it most. CERT leaders can relay priorities to outside help as it becomes available.

This is potentially a powerful, life-saving connection that brings the greatest good to the greatest number of people.

We have held CERT drills (2014 at the Coptic Church) and MYN Drills (2015 and 2016 around 5 Points). This exercise will be one of the first of its kind to combine the two. There is much to be learned!

CERT will deploy and set up the Command Post while the Map Your Neighborhood blocks do their assessments. CERT will then check in on each of the blocks to see where they need support and send response teams accordingly. This will be an evening exercise in the Mt. Washington area.  Exact location, time and more details to follow…

Oneonta-Olancha Stairs Cleanup – 6/25

Oneonta-Olancha Stairs

The stairs could use a good sweeping!

Join us Sunday, June 25 from 9-11 am and help improve our neighborhood! We’ll be doing some sweeping, clipping, light trash pickup, and bagging of some of the weed debris on the sides of the Stairway.

If we can get 6 people to do 30 minute shifts, we should be able to get this done in two hours or less. If you can’t spare the time, consider a donation to beautification fund.

Hopefully we’ll still have some June Gloom in the morning so it won’t be too hot!

The public stairway is located between 1108 Olancha Dr. and 1109 Oneonta Dr.

Bring: gloves, sunscreen, clippers, brooms and dustpans. We will have water and garbage bags.

RSVP on our Facebook page

Jessica Triangle Weedathon 3/26

Jessica Triangle Work Party 2016

Jessica Triangle Work Party 2016

Join us  Sunday, March 26, from 9am – 11am to help pull weeds and beautify our little pocket park.

Jessica Triangle is the landmark at the intersection of Jessica Drive and Cleland Avenue. Beginning in the late 90′s, local residents helped transform the triangle from a litter-strewn patch of asphalt to a beautifully landscaped drought-tolerant pocket park. You can read the inspiring story in Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch.

Please consider donating 30 minutes of your time or $10 from your pocket. Walk-by and drive-by cash donations accepted, or online at mtwashingtonjessica.org.
